Before I start discussing the concept of happiness, answer the following two questions:

  1. Are you a person who believes that they have happiness in their lives?
  2. If someone offered you happiness, would you accept it?

If you answered with a firm ‘yes’ to both of these questions, keep reading this article. If you answered ‘no’ to them, then ignore this article and start trying to change your perspective and beliefs about what happiness is.

Most people believe that happiness is only reserved or felt by those whom are by nature happy or successful or wealthy. But this concept is all wrong! In fact it is an incorrect stipulation of people in general.

The choice to be happy is made by you when you decide that is how you want to feel and how you want to live your life. Happiness is a very important part of life in general. Your happiness can reflect on others and help them become happy. Part of this is a responsibility on you to be a role model for others. Some people who are not happy with their lives may be inspired by the fact that you have found your own happiness and venture to do the same with theirs. Not only does this benefit those around you, but it also increases your own happiness exponentially.

If you harbor negativity in your concept of life, venture to shift that perspective from one of negativity to positivity using a very simple exercise. Take a paper and fold it in two. Then at the top of the right-hand section write “Negative Thought” and on the left-hand section write “Positive Thought”. Your task is to convert negative thoughts into positive ones. For example, if under the “Negative Thought” section you write, “Happiness is reserved for the wealthy” then in the “Positive Thought” section change that thought to, “I am happy with who and what I am!”

Once you are done doing this for all of your negative thoughts, rip, remove or discard the “Negative Thoughts” section and keep the “Positive Thoughts” section. Read and repeat the positive thoughts that you have written every morning when you wake up, every evening before you go to sleep and throughout the day for a minimum of 21 days. What you will find is a huge shift in your belief and concept of happiness. You will see a change in yourself and find yourself being more happy and accepting of the fact that you have happiness in your life.

Being happy is a choice that have during the here and now. It is up to you to believe that you have it and it is your right and responsibility to believe and take it when you feel like it isn’t there!
